First Rate
​My wife and I recently sold our property in the Caribbean prior to returning to the UK. The sale and purchase amount was denominated in USD and we wanted to transfer the final balance to a USD bank account in the UK so we could control the exchange to £.

It seems that the UK clearing banks are no longer willing to open non-Sterling accounts so we had to find an alternative means. Fortunately for us, the estate agent acting for the vendors of the UK house we are purchasing put us in touch with Tom Davies at Pathfinder FX. The service provided by Pathfinder, and Tom in particular, has been nothing short of excellent.

Following an initial exchange of introductory emails, Tom called us and explained the process in great detail. He assisted us in opening a multi-currency account with Banking Circle, a fully regulated bank specializing in international payment transfers. Tom communicated with us frequently on how the USD/GBP exchange rate was looking and sharing thoughts on what might impact the rate and timing of our exchange.
On completion of our sale of our villa (and having had three years’ experience of pretty appalling Caribbean banking), we were very pleasantly surprised to see our USD land in the Banking Circle account within 24 hours of remittance by our Caribbean attorney. Tom then called to discuss tactics. At his suggestion, we placed a market order at a certain rate and got within a whisker of it on the 21st September BOE rate setting.
Tom called us an hour before the rate was due to be announced and gave us the option to close out at the then prevailing rate.

We did so and were very pleased with the result. The subsequent transfer of the sterling proceeds from Banking Circle to our usual UK bank account was done same day.
The entire experience of dealing with Pathfinder has been first rate and we would highly recommend the firm (and Tom Davies especially) to anyone needing to transfer funds to and from the UK in any currency. Not only was the process made easy for us, but we also achieved a far better exchange rate than any clearing bank could offer.
