IMF says global 'soft landing' in sight, raises 2024 economic growth outlook

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its global economic growth forecast upward, citing a faster-than-expected easing of inflation. The updated World Economic Outlook indicates a "soft landing" on the horizon, with overall growth and global trade, though improving, still below historical averages. The IMF projects global growth at 3.1% in 2024, up from its October forecast, and anticipates unchanged growth of 3.2% in 2025. However, the historical average for 2000-2019 was 3.8%. The IMF highlights increased private and public spending, improved labour force participation, mended supply chains, and lower energy prices as supporting factors.
